Dr. Tan is a Chair Professor of Mechanical Engineering and the Director of the Institute of Engineering & Computer Graphics at Zhejiang University. He served as the Associate Director of the State Key Lab of Computer-Aided Design & Computer Graphics at Zhejiang University. Tan has engaged in research areas of mechanical design and theory, and more recently digitalization of design and manufacturing. He received a variety of awards at the national level, including the National Scientific and Technological Progress Awards and the National Excellent Education Achievement Award, as well as multiple Zhejiang Technology Progress Awards. Tan is an elected member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. He served as the Deputy Board Chairman of the China Engineering Graphic Society and the Board Chairman of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society.
